Hiking Trail GR-132, Stage 3 and Stage 4<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the small Canary Island of La Gomera, there are the hiking trails GR-131 and GR-132. While the GR-131 runs through the heights of the island, the GR-132 winds up and down through the many ravines, more or less always parallel to the coast. I have described my hike on the GR-131 from San Sebasti\u00e1n through the heights of La Gomera to Valle Gran Rey here.<\/a> During my first attempt at circumnavigating the island, I walked counterclockwise around it and have already described Stage 8 San Sebastian – Playa Santiago on SiebenInseln.<\/a> I have described the first stage from San Sebastian to Hermigua here.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can find the 2nd stage from Hermigua to Vallehermoso here<\/a>. And in this article, I will describe to you the 3rd stage from Vallehermoso to Alojera and the 4th stage from Alojera to Valle Gran Rey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a reminder of all stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The long-distance hiking trail GR-132 is divided into the following officially signposted stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.0 San Sebastian- Hermigua \u2013 approximately 26 kilometers<\/a>
2.0 Hermigua \u2013 Vallehermoso \u2013 approximately 19 kilometers <\/a>
3.0 Vallehermoso \u2013 Alojera4.0 Alojera \u2013 Valle Gran Rey \u2013 together approximately 22 kilometers (3 and 4)
5.0 Valle Gran Rey \u2013 La Dama \u2013 approximately 18 kilometers
6.0 La Dama \u2013 Alajer\u00f3
7.0 Alajer\u00f3 \u2013 Playa de Santiago \u2013 approximately 23 kilometers (6 and 7)

General Information on Hike GR 132, Stage 3, and Stage 4 – Vallehermoso to Valle Gran Rey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Starting Point and Access<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You start your hike in the center of Vallehermoso at Plaza de la Constituci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access by car<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You can reach Vallehermoso from both sides via the main island road GM-1. The GM-1 passes directly by Plaza de la Constituci\u00f3n in the center of Vallehermoso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access by bus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bus line 2 runs between San Sebastian and Vallehermoso. For more detailed information about the exact times, you can visit the homepage. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I prefer not to provide specific time estimates as they can vary greatly depending on individual factors. For GR 132, Stage 3, and Stage 4 from Vallehermoso to Alojera and into Valle Gran Rey, we took approximately 10.5 hours with long breaks and heavy luggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elevation Profile and Distance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The elevation difference is approximately 1500 meters, and contrary to the information provided to me, the distance for us was 25.5 kilometers instead of the stated 22 kilometers (see above).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Difficulty<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The hike follows the well-established long-distance hiking trail GR-132, Stage 3, and Stage 4, so generally, the trails are well maintained. However, there are a few spots where a head for heights and sure-footedness are necessary. Having excellent physical condition is essential for this long stretch. Even if you decide to split this section into two parts, you’ll still need to be in good shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Refreshment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You have options for refreshments at the beginning and end of GR 132, Stage 3, and Stage 4 in Vallehermoso and Valle Gran Rey, as well as in the middle at Chorus de Epina and in Alojera. A detour to Arure is also possible. However, it’s advisable to carry sufficient water and snacks for this long hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Variants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There aren’t many variations if you want to stick precisely to the GR-132, Stage 3, and Stage 4 hiking trail. However, for GR-132, Stage 3, there are actually two options to reach Epina. If you stop at the beach of Vallehermoso after Stage 2 (as I have already walked there, see hike Chijer\u00e9<\/a>), then the first variant of Stage 3 begins there with the ascent. Since I have already walked there, this time we chose the longer route into Vallehermoso for Stage 2 and thus made the ascent from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
